EJ Tackett Claims 25th Career Title at PBA Pete Weber Missouri Classic
A Dominant Performance from Start to Finish
EJ Tackett secured his 25th career PBA Tour title in commanding fashion, winning the PBA Pete Weber Missouri Classic with a wire-to-wire victory. Tackett, the event’s top seed, defeated Dom Barrett in the championship match, 238-202, on Sunday afternoon at Enterprise Park Lanes in Springfield, Missouri.
The title marks another milestone in Tackett’s decorated career, tying him with Brian Voss for 11th all-time on the PBA Tour title list, just one behind Don Johnson.
A Special Victory for Tackett
Winning a tournament named after PBA legend Pete Weber made this victory even more meaningful for Tackett.
“It is so cool to win an event with someone like Pete’s name on it,” Tackett said. “This is one of those trophies that, in 20 or 30 years when I look back on my career, it’s going to be a special one, especially with his signature on it. That’s something that very few people are ever going to be able to have. It’s a surreal feeling.”
Barrett’s Impressive Run Falls Short
Dom Barrett, the most recent Triple Crown winner before Tackett, made a strong push for the title. Entering the stepladder finals as the No. 4 seed, Barrett defeated Ryan Barnes, Timmy Tan, and Tim Foy Jr. in consecutive matches to set up a championship showdown with Tackett.
Barrett’s journey started with a 190-141 victory over Barnes, who struggled with four open frames. In the quarterfinal, Timmy Tan—aiming to become the first Malaysian PBA Tour champion—delivered a strong performance but fell just short, losing 246-245.
In the semifinal, Barrett found himself trailing Tim Foy Jr. early but responded with seven consecutive strikes to take the match 239-224.
Championship Match: A Turning Point in the Sixth Frame
With both players in peak form, the title match promised a close contest. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the sixth frame when Barrett left a pocket 7-10 split, followed by a spare conversion attempt on the 3-6-10.
Tackett took full advantage of the opening.
“I felt like my next two shots were the two most important ones of the match,” Tackett said. “To get up and strike twice after he missed twice was really important to keep the momentum on my side.”
Despite Barrett’s resilience—striking in the eighth and ninth frames—Tackett remained steady under pressure. In the final frames, Tackett needed to convert two 10-pin spares and knock down nine pins on his fill shot to seal the victory. He delivered flawlessly, finishing with a clutch strike to secure the championship.
Tackett’s Road to Redemption
The victory was even sweeter given Tackett’s struggles the previous week. He missed the cut at the PBA Owen’s Illinois Classic by just 13 pins, citing issues with 10-pin conversions during qualifying. Determined to improve, he went home and worked relentlessly on his spare shooting.
His preparation paid off, as his precise spare conversions proved crucial in the final frames against Barrett.
“I’ve always believed in myself. I’ve always believed in my abilities,” Tackett said. “I always believed that I was going to win at some point. I had no idea this was even possible.”
Tackett reflected on the legendary bowlers he looked up to early in his career—Jason Belmonte, Pete Weber, Norm Duke, and Parker Bohn III—and how he never imagined reaching their level.
“I never thought that anything they ever did was remotely attainable. I’m not saying that I can get to where they’ve gotten in the sport—but, well, maybe I can.”
What’s Next for Tackett?
With his 25th title now secured, Tackett will turn his attention to his next challenge: the PBA Mike Aulby Nevada Classic, which begins February 25 at Coconut Bowl in Reno, Nevada.

決勝戦は両者とも高い集中力を発揮し、互角の戦いが続いた。しかし、勝負の流れが大きく変わったのは6フレームだった。
バレットがポケット7-10スプリットを残し、その後3-6-10のスペアをカバー。このミスが決定的な転機となった。
「次の2投が試合の最重要ポイントだったと感じました」とタケットは振り返る。「バレットが2回続けてミスした後、自分がストライクを2回決めたことが、流れをこちらに引き寄せるうえで大きかったです。」
バレットも意地を見せ、8フレームと9フレームでストライクを決めたが、タケットは冷静に試合をコントロール。
タケット、悔しさをバネに勝利をつかむ
今回の勝利は、タケットにとってまさにリベンジの一戦だった。先週のPBAオーウェンズ・イリノイ・クラシックでは、わずか13ピン差で予選通過を逃していた。特に10ピンカバーの失敗が響き、悔しい結果となった。
その悔しさを晴らすため、タケットは自宅のボウリングセンターで徹底的に10ピンカバーの練習を行った。そして、決勝戦の最後の局面で、その努力が報われることとなった。
タケットは9フレームと10フレームで10ピンカバーを2回成功させ、最後のストライクで優勝を決めた。
「自分の力を信じ続けてきました。いつか勝つと信じていたけど、まさかここまで来られるとは思っていませんでした。」
タケットは自身のキャリアを振り返りながら、ジェイソン・ベルモンテ、ピート・ウェバー、ノーム・デューク、パーカー・ボーンIIIといったレジェンドたちに憧れていたことを語った。
「彼らのようになれるなんて、夢にも思っていませんでした。でも、もしかしたら…自分もそこに近づけるのかもしれません。」

通算25勝目を達成したタケットは、次なる目標に向けて動き出す。彼の次戦はPBAマイク・オールビー・ネバダ・クラシック。大会は2月25日よりネバダ州リノのココナッツボウルで開幕する。
