Belmonte and O’Neill Reign Supreme at the PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship

The dynamic duo of Jason Belmonte and Bill O’Neill has reclaimed their place at the top of the PBA Tour, securing their second career PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship title. In an intense final showdown, they overpowered DJ Archer and Shawn Maldonado with a dominant 210-169 victory.

A Commanding Performance from Start to Finish

Belmonte and O’Neill demonstrated their dominance from the outset, earning the top seed after 36 grueling games of qualifying and 16 games of round-robin match play. Their exceptional performance ensured they had the best possible position heading into the finals.

“We’ve been in this position so many times that this is the expectation,” O’Neill reflected. “Leading the tournament was key. It allowed us to get into a comfortable rhythm, and that made all the difference.”

Belmonte echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the teamwork and consistency required to win a doubles event. “Winning in doubles means both players need to be at their best the entire tournament. You can’t rely on just one player to carry the team. It takes two great performances, all week long, to come out on top.”

With this victory, Belmonte secured his 32nd PBA Tour title, while O’Neill added his 15th to his illustrious career.

A Week to Remember for O’Neill

The victory was made even more special for O’Neill, who had just received the incredible honor of being elected to the PBA Hall of Fame as a member of the 2025 class.

“Getting inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame is surreal,” O’Neill said. “I never imagined I’d be in this position, let alone winning a title the same week. To do it alongside Jason, one of the greatest bowlers of all time, makes it even more special.”

Belmonte, thrilled for his longtime teammate, drew parallels to another Hall of Famer. “Our good friend Tommy Joneswon a title the same week he was inducted. I really wanted Bill to have that same experience. He bowled incredibly all week, and I’m proud to have shared this victory with him.”

The Road to Victory

The stepladder finals kicked off with No. 5 seed Matt Ogle and Sean Rash making a strong push, defeating Tim Foy Jr. and Kevin McCune before knocking off Patrick Dombrowski and Bailey Mavrick.

Ogle and Rash’s run was halted in the semifinals by Archer and Maldonado, who secured their first career match victory in a televised doubles final with a thrilling 221-215 win.

But in the championship match, Belmonte and O’Neill proved to be unstoppable, executing flawlessly under the bright lights and avenging last year’s runner-up finish with a convincing win.

The PBA Tour rolls on with the PBA World Series of Bowling XVI at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.
