Marshall Kent Wins 2024 PBA Tournament of Champions, Capturing His First Major Title
A Long-Awaited Victory for Kent
Marshall Kent has officially marked his comeback in the world of professional bowling. After securing his first singles title in seven years at the PBA Illinois Classic earlier this season, Kent proved he was truly “back” by winning the 2024 PBA Tournament of Champions (TOC) on Sunday at AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, Ohio.
The 31-year-old bowler defeated Anthony Simonsen 205-201 in the final match, securing his seventh career PBA Tour title and, more importantly, his first-ever major championship.
“This is a lifelong dream come true,” Kent said. “I’ve always wanted my first major to be the TOC at Riviera, and now it’s finally real.”
Climbing the Stepladder to Victory
As the No. 4 seed, Kent had a challenging road to the title. He defeated Jason Sterner, Matt Ogle, EJ Tackett, and Anthony Simonsen to claim the trophy. Ironically, this was the same lineup that Jason Belmonte defeated to win the 2023 TOC.
His dominance began in the opening match against Sterner, who struggled with splits in his first three frames and opened four consecutive frames, allowing Kent to take control early. Kent then produced a brilliant 267-226 victory over Matt Ogle, starting the match with six consecutive strikes.
Next, he faced EJ Tackett in the semifinals, a formidable opponent looking to win his third consecutive PBA Tour title, a feat last accomplished in 1971 by Johnny Petraglia. However, Tackett was dealing with a shoulder injury, which led to costly spare misses. Kent took advantage, securing a 212-192 win.
In the championship match, Kent maintained a steady lead over Simonsen but left the door open in the 10th frame. Simonsen needed a double and four pins to win but left a 10-pin on his second shot, allowing Kent to clinch the title.
A Season of Redemption
With this victory, Kent earns $100,000 and finishes the 2024 PBA Tour regular season second in points, trailing only EJ Tackett.
Kent credited his success to a renewed passion for the sport after moving from Las Vegas to Detroit. His hard work during the offseason paid off, as he secured two titles, one major championship, four top-five finishes, and five top-10 finishes this season.
“This win is the icing on the cake,” Kent said. “I know my father was watching from above, and I can just hear him saying, ‘I’m proud of you, budro.’”

決勝戦では、若きスター選手アンソニー・サイモンセン選手と対戦。試合は最後の10フレームまで緊迫した展開となり、ケント選手が205-201で競り勝ちました。この勝利により、彼は賞金10万ドル（約1,200万円）を獲得しました。
